Thursday Feb 29th

 Today we started off class by taking an illuminate test based on the poems we've read. The test had 25 questions they were all multiple choices. I understood most of the questions until it was based on the poem " dream deferred". I don't remember reading the poem so I had to take an estiment guess. Once we were done with test we were given a new assignment. We have to create our own poem based on our culture. We will have class time tomorrow to finish working on it.

Tuesday Feb 27th

Toady we were supposed to turn in the package that we've been working on, but cause majority of the class didn't do the same part we were given until Thursday to turn it in. I had yet to finish the argumentative part for the poem "The Negro Speaks of Rivers." So the extended time really came into benefit. During the class period we given a new poem called " Let America Be America Again." We read it as a class and annotated it as we went. On a separate sheet of paper that we we given we had to write down the roles of the people being mentioned throughout the poem and how have they been oppressed. We didn't get to finish the poem and the questions, so we will be finishing it on Thursday.

Monday Fed 26th

 Today in class we didn’t learn anything new or did much during class. But for most of the class period we spent it trying to finish the package of poems we were given Friday. Whatever we didn’t finish in class, we had to complete as tonight’s homework. The package is due tomorrow.

Friday Feb 23rd

 Today in class we were told that there would be people walking into classrooms and seeing around so we had to put our phones completely away. We were given a package with a separate sheet of paper that had all the poems we’ve worked on. The poems were “The Negro Speaks of River”, “I,Too”, “Refugee In America”, and “Mother to Son”. For the package we were basically writing for each poem its topic, theme, 2 textual evidence that support the theme, and complex account. We worked together as a class on the first poem which was “I,Too.” We all had to find an un answered question in the poem and try answering it, then find textual evidence to support our answer. Finally we had to write a claim, evidence and explanation. We had to work on one of the poems for the last 12 minutes of class, and the rest we'll finish in class on Monday.

Thursday Feb 22nd

 In class we stated a new poem called “Mother to Son.”We had to annotate the poem as we read it. The poem was basically about a mom telling her son not to give up even when times get tough. Once we were done annotating and reading it, we wrote 2 themes. Once done we had to flip the poem and on the back side it had 12 questions. We had to answer all of them before the bell rang on a separate sheet of paper because there wasn’t enough space for us to write on it.

Tuesday Feb 20th

 


Today in class we started class with answers 2 questions that were based on the new poem we were going to read and annotate. The first question was “What does it mean to be an American?",  and the second question was “what symbolizes America?" I was called on to answer the first question, and I answered it by saying that " to be free and have equal or better opportunity than what we had before. Afterwards we started working on the new poem called " I, TOO"  by Langston Hughes. We annotated the poem and wrote 3 themes for it. The themes were; 1) Tomorrow will be a better today in America, 2)In America, you must take advantage of the opportunists that are given to you, and 3) Every American is treated equal no matter the circumstance. 

Thursday Feb 15th

Class was a lot shorter today due to the Black history assembly happening during homeroom. But during the class time we worked on a new poem called  “ Refugee in America”. We annotated the poem and wrote down 2 themes for it.

Monday Fed 12th

 Today we had a substitute teacher. We were left an assignment on canvas that was based on chapter 8 of the Great Gatsby book. We had to read chapter 8 before starting the work. The assignment consisted of 5 multiple choice answers and 1 written response. The written respond was asking how the love sorry between Gatsby and Daisy give off a theme of the American Dream. Once I finished the assignment I completed my daily blog.

Friday Fed 9th

 We started class with another black history month bellringer. This time it was based of the first African American supreme spurt justice women who was Ketanji Brown Jackson. Afterwards we did a t chart on ways we can both respectful and not respectful towards other people’s culture. We had to write 6 things for each one. Finally once we finished discussing how to be both respectful and disrespectful to other people’s culture we had to present our projects. I was able to present mine first before class ended.

Thursday Fed 8th

 Today we had a shorter class period due to the assembly that was going to happen in homeroom. We started off class with doing a bell ringer based a black history month. We’ll be starting class with writing down information on an important African American from now on. Told we learned about Condoleezza Rice who was the first African American woman to serve as the Untied State’s security of state. Once done with our bell ringer we started presenting our mini projects. I was going to present mine today but there was something wrong with opening it so I’ll be presenting tomorrow instead.

Tuesday Feb 6th

In class we started reading chapter 7 of the book. We were also given a worksheet that went along with the chapter. We have to answer questions 1-5 only and read the chapter half way. We were also given a small piece of paper and everyone got a different task. In my paper is asked to list 2 words that are given in the story and give the definition. Both the worksheet and the small piece of paper were collected at the end of class. We were also told that our mini projects are due by the end on the day and we’ll be presenting them on Thursday.

Monday Fed 5th

 Today in class we finished working on our projects. I just had to write the 2-3 sentences on why the character would use the website and backup support. We have to submit our projects by the end of the day tomorrow. We were given a sheet of paper where we would show our work/planning of the project. It has to be completed by Thursday when we present.

Friday Fed 2nd

We started the class with taking a 5 question common assessment. Once we were done we learned that we’re going to do an individual project that we’ll present next Thursday. We have 3 options on what we can do the project on. I chose to do my project on the first option that was creating a PowerPoint with 10 websites what the character from the Great Gatsby would look up. We had to also include 2-3 sentences talking about why they would use those websites.

Thursday Feb 1st

 Today we had a substitute teacher. We didn’t do anything besides just work on the assignment we’re given. The assignment was on canvas and it was based on chapter 6 of the Great Gatsby book. To do the assignment we had to first read chapter 6 cause it was a new chapter and we haven’t read it before. Then answer the question and paste them into the text box or submit a docs with the work. Once finished with the assignment all that was left was to do our daily blog and we would be finished with today’s work.
