Friday Mar 29th

 Today in class we worked on a new assignment. I had asked what assignments I had missed due to not being here for 2 days. I just had to check Canvas and complete anything that was missing. All assignments are due before April 12th. The assignment for today was called "Narrative outline." We had to create a narrative based on the story. We had different options to choose from. We were also given a layout and instructions on how we are supposed to do it.

Monday Mar 25th

Today we were given an assignment on Canvas. The assignment was called " The Life You Save May Be Your Own." For this assignment we had to read the story and for each paragraph we had to answer a question. I was able to finish half of the questions during the class period. We had to type out our answers in canvas.

Friday Mar 22nd

 We took an illuminate test for most of the class period. The test was 20 questions, all multiple choices. Once done taking the test we were shown the class percentage of how well we did on the class. I missed the class 4 questions, so I got an 80%. I was struggling to identify what type of claim it was. Had to choose between claim of fact, evidence, value, and policy. Claim of evidence was put as an option to throw us off. After being shown the class percentage, We went over some of the questions most students missed.

Thursday Mar 21st

 Today in class we had to sit in groups of 3 or 4. For the assignment we had to create an argumentative paragraph based on the topics we've been working on since Friday. We started off doing the sports one. It was asking us if we agreed or opposed students- athletes getting money from participating in sport programs. We were given a format on how we need the paragraph to look like. For the majority of the class period we were working on writing down the information onto a sheet of paper. Had to include the claim, evidence 1, explanation 1, evidence 2, explanation 2, and the conclusion. Once it was getting close to the end of the class we had to review another classmate argumentative paragraph.

Tuesday Mar 19th

 For today's class period the assignment was based on Monday's assignment. But instead we had to write down evidence from articles we were given.  For the assignment we had 2 main topics which were Sport-Compensation for Student-Athletes, and Social Media- Impact on Teenager. We had to do sorta like a paragraph agreeing and opposing to the topic. So the claim we created yesterday would be the claims for this assignment. Then we had to read 2 different articles based on the same topic and take out 2 pieces of evidence from each showing agreement and against. It took me a bit more time to complete this assignment.  

Monday Mar 18th

 In class we learned how to create claims. For this assignment we were given different prompts on different topics and for each we had to create a claim supporting and going against it. The first prompt was based on sports asking if " student athletes should receive compensation for participating in school sports program, considering the revenue that may generate for school?" We had a total 9 different prompts that we had to complete. And they had to be highlighted in red so that they could be noticable. I was able to complete the worksheet by the end of the day.

Friday Mar 15th

 During class we learned about how to identify claims. We had to go into Canvas and download an article called " Three- year bachelor's degrees could save families thousands- but are students ready?" For the work we would be doing during class was based off the article. We had to read the article and whenever we came across a claim we had to type it down in the correct topic. The topics we had were Economic Implication, student life and debt, educational structure and policy, academic and personal development, Future career and skills, and broader educational values. We did the first one as a class together but the last 9 we had to complete on our own.

Thursday Mar 14th

 Today we had a substitute teacher. We were left an assignment to complete. The assignment was located in Newsela and was called “Hitting “snooze” can boost morning cognition, study hints.” We had to read the article and answer the 4 questions. Afterwards once done answering the question we had to complete a writing prompt. I was able to complete the assignment before class ended.

Tuesday Mar 12th

 Today in class we added new more notes for how to annotate and cite quotes from the text. Once we finished adding those notes we were given a new assignment in Newsela. The assignment is called " Fast-Food giants overwork teenagers, driving America's child labor crisis." We had to read the article on our own and Once finished we had to complete two assignments based on the article. The first assignment was to answer 4 question in Newsela, and afterwords complete the writing prompt. For the 4 questions I got 3 correct out of 4. I was able to complete the assignment before class ended.

Monday Mar 11th

 Today in class we started off by taking notes on how to annotate quotes from the tartical into our answers. Once we finished typing our notes we started working on a new assignment in Newsela. The assignment was called "Tech- related Jobs Are the Future." For this assignment we had to read the article, and once we were done we had to answer the 4 questions in Newsela. Once done answering those questions we had to go back into Canvas and answer the 2 questions given in full sentences. We started of with 5 questions, but due to running out of time we only had to answer the first 2 questions.

Thursday Mar 7th

 Today in class we focused on completing our American Lit Benchmark 3. I was on question 18 so I only had 2 more questions to complete. Most of the students in the class didn’t finish completing it yesterday so they tried to complete it today. I was able to complete my benchmark a few minutes before class ended. The people who did finish their benchmark yesterday didn’t do anything throughout the class. Some of the class weren’t able to finish it so they were given an extra day on Monday to complete it.

Wednesday Mar 6th

 Today we had our even classes on a Wednesday. During class we started our American Lit Benchmark. We had the whole class period to complete the benchmark. The questions were based on speech’s from President Franklin D. Roosevelt. There were 20 questions on the test, and 4 of them were written responds. I wasn’t able to complete the benchmark, but we were given an extra day tomorrow to complete it.

Culture Poem Jamboard

 




Monday Mar 4th

 Today we started class with getting a duet of paper with a new poem called “We Real Cool” by Gwendolyn Brooks. On the back side we had to write down 4 things we thought were cool and 4 things that aren’t cool. Afterwords we shared as a class what we wrote and filled in the blank spaces as we went. We were told that we would not be able to present our culture poem Jamboard because of limited time and due to this week being shorter. Once done with writing down what was cool and what wasn’t we started annotating the poem. We also wrote 2 themes for it.

Friday Mar 1st

 During class today we spent the whole time working on our jamboard projects. We had to upload everything onto the slide we were assigned to. Our jamboard is due Monday so we have the weekend to finish working on it. My poem for the jamboard is called “The beauty of blue and white.”
